Jahe Chole combines two traditional songs sung in the dying language Khapa, once widely spoken by Nocte people. Jahe is sung in the fields while tending to crops. It is a playful exchange between two groups competing to turn out the better crop. Chole is Khapa for swing. After clearing the forest for cultivation, the Noctes celebrate around a swing hung from a tree branch, singing and dancing, drinking rice beer and sharing food.
